Broad Background

Alex holds degrees from the University of Minnesota (M.M. Collaborative Piano & Coaching) and Pomona College (B.A. Music). In addition to classical training, his background includes jazz, popular styles, musical theatre, composition, and music theory.

Student-Centered Philosophy

Alex's mission is to help every student develop the technical freedom and artistic independence they need to express themselves at the piano.

He employs a holistic approach that draws upon diverse repertoire, practical music theory, and opportunities for improvisation & composition.

Lessons are offered in 30-, 45-, or 60-minute increments, and are available online or in students' homes.
